What a great couple of weeks this has been! New York Anime Fest was last weekend and actually had quite a few fun voice over related happenings. I didn't really learn anything new but was reminded of a lot of great advice and it was great to see people who have been in this field a lot longer than I have, doing their thing. It's inspiring. It was also a great weekend for making connections and getting updated on the anime market.

A lot of voice over/film projects I've been in recently have all been coming out as well.

First, the biggest, is Metal Gear Solid: Philanthropy in which I did some background walla. It's a fantastic movie and you should all definitely watch it. The CG is absolutely amazing and everything was made top notch. This belongs in theaters. I'm so happy to be a part of this project.

Second, is a short cartoon called MattLin: Hawaiian Puppies in which I was the voice of Lin and Ub. It's now up on Newgrounds so check it out!

Last but not least, although this isn't voice over related, a short indy film called "Bedford Park Blvd" I was an extra in this summer now has the trailer up on their website. You can see me getting up from a table in the front shot at 0:53 into the trailer. How exciting is that?!

Exciting news! MorningStar Smiles now has a new domain name: crystal-lonnquist.com! I like the web blog format of this site and it has been the home of my voice over endeavors for over three years now but the domain name definitely needed a professional upgrade.

Coming up this weekend is New York Anime Fest and I'm in the process of re-doing my demo to shop out to directors. I've also spent the previous week working off and on on a new business card. There have been too many times in the city when it would have been handy to have them and I'm sure I'll have need for them this weekend. Wish me luck!

I've also got a new voice over project underway but more on that later...

The English Version of a mod I was in for Fallout 3 called "Cube Experimental" just came out this month!

If you have Fallout 3, you can download the mod here. The original version is in German which can also be downloaded from the same site. I played the Service System (aka the system computer's voice). It was a lot of fun to record for. If you, like me, don't have Fallout 3, you can watch/listen to the YouTube Walk-through below. The editors pitch-shifted my computer voice up an octave in part 1 but I still like how it turned out. It has a very interesting sound. My voice first comes in about 1:10 into the first video. Part 2 has the more "real person" sounding recording and my voice is heard at 3:18.

Walk-through: Part 1 . Part 2 . Part 3

Earlier this summer, I also recorded for a short cartoon for my buddy COČ (Cyrus Oliver the 2nd) in his series "MattLin." The episode is called 'Hawaiian Puppies' and I play both Lin  and a cute little water sprite named Ub  who can't dance. I'll post it when it's finished.

Other than that it's just been little projects here and there. I had a couple lines in a friend, Chris Niosi's flash Transformers 2 review satire. And Kyle Hebert is in it!!! I was also cast as a rough-'n-tough action girl named "Jan" in Chris's flash comedy video game collaboration. What I love the most about this character is that she narrates to herself all the time.

I'll post this too when it's finished.

Side thought: My demos are all embarrassingly old... must...update!!!

I'm like a dandelion. You just can't get rid of me! I will continue with voice over because it's what I love to do, no matter what gets in the way. New news is more NYU student projects (both film and voice over) and a few animation voice over projects for friends. But my new goal is to do more than what I've been doing and stop twiddling my thumbs while I wait to finish off my college loans. Paying those is like purgatory.

Something I especially enjoyed working on recently with Lucien was a NYU radioplay by Gen Kim. Kim's concept was to take the American prime time show 24 and replace the main characters with characters from Pokemon. Hilarity ensues and it turned out well so I thought I'd share it with you all. Enjoy!

It's nice to be updating this more frequently! My second Pokemon audition turned out to be unsuccessful but I'm still proud of how it went in comparison to last time and figured out more of what they're looking for for voices. In other words, I know what to work on for next time.

In other news, FINALLY voice over requests have been coming in over the Tisch Talent Guild listings. I've got a voice over gig at NYU coming up on the 16th and hopefully there will be many more to come. In the meantime, it's back to Minnesota for Easter for me (April 9-12) and Japan April 30-May 14th.

Whoo! New voice over news! First off, I sat in on a voice over class my roommate, Lucien Dodge, and Barbara Rosenblat taught a few weeks ago. It was great to finally meet Ms. Rosenblat after hearing so much about her and listening to her in past projects like Grand Theft Auto. She's got a really awesome voice and there's so much experience and skill behind it.I'm jealous of women who have the deeper richness and maturity in their voices that usually only men have. Lucien also pulled out a trick I hadn't heard before. I'm greatful the sound professor for allowing me to sit in on the class and my boss for being so surprisingly cool about letting me take off work in the middle of the day everytime I have something voice over related.

Soon after the class, I scored a roll in a senior's final recorded music & engineering project for a collection of stories she was producing. I narrated one of them and did background walla and side characters with another voice actress for another one at another session. I also used a Neumann U87 for the first time. Aaaah. So nice....

Finally, I've got another audition for Pokemon this Thursday!!!! I'm so so so excited. I really hope I get the role. Since I've auditioned for them once before I feel a lot more comfortable this time and know more of what to expect. Wish me luck!

Ah, lovely March. Still attending NYC Playwrights for cold reading every Friday. We had a fundraiser last Saturday (clips available on the NYC Playwrights home page). It was nice to perform before new faces. I also acted in my first NYU student film last week. It was for an open scene so it allowed for more flexability than most scenes. Speaking of NYU, voice acting season is starting up again and I can't wait to get back into those studios. Hopefully I'll have news on various projects there soon. I need to keep my eyes and ears out for animation voice over projects at other colleges around the area too.

Updates updates. Hmm. I'm not working hard enough at acting am I? I joined a cold reading group that meets once a week for 3 hours though so I'm still going at it! Plus voice acting season starts up soon for college students either at the end of this month or beginning of next so I'm going to try and get my demo out there and do more projects. Oh! And I'm moving in September. We figured out that there just isn't room for a sound studio in the tiny apartment I live in now so that's going to be one of the conditions on deciding on a new place. I'm going crazy not having a place I can record at whenever I want anymore. Yeah, definitely need to be working harder at acting though. The "full-time job" excuse can only go so far. Even if I do have about an hour each way commute to add to that. Voice related at least, I've been studying Japanese for the past 6 months-ish. It's a language I've always wanted to learn and I'm going there in June for a couple weeks to visit my twin sister who's studying abroad there currently. NYC is awesome as always because I have plenty of opportunities to practice here.
